To ensure precise positioning, a few settings have to be adjusted on your mobile device before starting the game. City Poker needs a permanent connection to the game server and therefore has to be connected to the internet during the entire game.
Moreover, the players' positions need to be located by the game. This is possible by using GPS and wireless networks, what has to be confirmed in the settings of the mobile device in advance of starting a game.
On a usual Android device the required settings can be found by choosing Settings → Location and Security. Under “My Location” you have to enable the usage of wireless networks and GPS satellites by checking the according boxes.
Instead of using a ready-made game field you can create your own using the City Poker Editor. Follow the link to create your very own game of City Poker guided by the step by step instructions of the Editor.

The poker cards played with in City Poker are limited: There are cards with the value of ace to ten with the colors heart, spare, cross and square. The players’ job is to gain the best possible poker card combination. This is done by swapping poker cards of the “poker hand” with the hidden ones in the cashes in a preferably clever way. The different combinations declining in value can be found below.
A straight from a ten to an ace with all five cards of the same suit. In poker all suits are ranked equally.
Any four cards of the same rank. If two players share the same Four of a Kind (on the board), the bigger fifth card (the "kicker") decides who wins the pot.
Any three cards of the same rank together with any two cards of the same rank.
Any five consecutive cards of different suits. Aces can count as either a high or a low card.
Any three cards of the same rank.
Any two cards of the same rank together with another two cards of the same rank.
Any two cards of the same rank.
Any hand not in the above-mentioned hands.
City Poker is a game for everyone but teachers will find it especially valuable. By integrating City Poker into a class or an excursion you can draw on its many advantages:
City Poker is played using smartphones and is therefore interesting for children as they can use modern technology. However, as City Poker is also a location-based game it is played outdoors instead of inside in front of a computer. You get both, technology and exercise.
Furthermore, City Poker is not only a fun game to play but you can also use it to give your pupils a lesson. As you can play it with your own set of questions you can cover a very wide range of topics from biology via history through to geography. The quizzes are particularly useful to test the children’s knowledge about specific topics.
On a school excursion teachers and pupils can use City Poker to explore an unknown city and learn about its history and characteristics in a playful way at the same time.
